BRITTNEY

Morgan State University – Theatre Major

What is a cause or social movement you are passionate about? Why?

“A movement I am very passionate about would be the Black Lives Matter movement…This movement shows how black people are treated in America and spreads awareness to bring about change. Of course it’s near and dear to my heart – I live and breathe the blackness I can’t change, the blackness people hate me for. I live for anything that incites change and equality by any means.”

JAELYN

Howard University – Marketing Major

What is a cause or social movement you are passionate about? Why?

“As the years have gone on, I have witnessed numerous bigoted crimes against Black people to the point that I am not shocked. That in itself is a problem, and is why the Black Lives Matter movement is so important to me. Unjust Black death should not be something that people are desensitized to. This movement, for me, is a beacon of hope that one day those who come after me won’t have to suffer like this anymore.”

JASMYN

Manhattanville College – Dance Major

What are you most passionate about and why? How will this fellowship allow you to further develop your passion?

“This fellowship will allow me to further develop my passion because I will get to have more experience of what social justice looks like behind the scenes and prepare for all real life situations when not everyone is onboard with my ideas or solutions. I will get the opportunity to learn how to be a social justice leader on and off campus. I love learning about how I can make a difference and passing that knowledge onto others so we can change the world together.”

JOSHUA

Medgar Evers College – Liberal Arts Major

In your opinion, what makes a social movement successful? Why?

“What makes a social movement successful is when individuals and groups at the grassroots level are cultivated, nurtured, and connected—both to the movement’s cause and through relationships between the movement’s members.”

SAMEILLIA

Lincoln University – Strategic Mass Communications Major

What are you most passionate about and why? How will this fellowship allow you to further develop your passion?

“With this fellowship, I hope to gain knowledge and experience working on legal and social issues on a day-to-day basis. This amazing opportunity would allow me to connect and network with people who can guide me and provide resources to achieve my goals.”
